The difference

Two ways a dealer can help you sell

Both are legitimate routes. Which suits you comes down to whether you value speed or the final figure more.

Selling to a dealer

Quick, at a wholesale price

  • The dealer buys the car from you
  • One price, agreed and done
  • The dealer carries the resale risk
  • Price reflects that risk and cost
Consignment

Aimed at a retail buyer

  • You keep ownership until it sells
  • Asking price agreed with you first
  • We deal with enquiries and viewings
  • No guaranteed timeline, since it needs a buyer

Consignment FAQ

What owners ask us

What is car consignment?

You keep ownership of your car while we market and sell it on your behalf, rather than selling it to us outright. The aim is to reach a retail buyer rather than accept a wholesale price.

How is that different from selling to a dealer?

When a dealer buys your car they take on the risk and cost of reselling it, and the price reflects that. With consignment the car is sold to the eventual owner, but you wait for a buyer to appear and there is no guarantee of when that happens.

Who decides the asking price?

We agree it with you before the car is listed, and we will tell you honestly if we think a figure is unrealistic for the market.

My car still has an outstanding loan. Is that a problem?

No problem. We will assist in checking the outstanding loan amount with your existing finance company and arrange for the loan settlement. Any remaining balance will be paid directly to you.

How long does consignment take?

It depends entirely on the car, the price and the season. Some move quickly, others sit. We will give you a realistic view for your specific vehicle before you commit.

What does it cost?

$0 cost to seller. You receive 100% of the agreed transacted price. All applicable fees and our profit are borne by the buyer.

Can I change my mind?

Talk to us about it. The terms of any consignment arrangement are agreed with you in writing first, so you will know where you stand before your car is listed.

What do I need to get started?

Send us the make, model, registration date and mileage and we will take it from there.

Not sure which route suits your car?

Tell us what you drive and we will talk you through both options honestly, including which one we think fits.
